It is very hard to pick 'highlights', but perhaps the opportunity to meet local people was something we feel very privileged about. The countryside is certainly spectacular, and for us, it is really good to get away from the 'regular tourist' places.
We recall with a lot of pleasure the nights in Mai Chau and Phuc An, but we also really enjoyed the evening in Moc Chau. Phu Yen, too, was a great experience even just for the fact that we made it there! The old French road was very memorable as well as providing such spectacular scenery, and I guess I could go on and on - Hoa Binh (and the Dam), Thac Ba, Yen Bai, the ferry crossing, the waterfall and the people at Phuc An, Phuen(?) and her Doctor husband (please give them our sincere regards), the waterfall near Moc Chau, the ride back along the levee bank, and, of course, the collision!!
I asked Lesley for her 'highlight' and she says just the freedom of being on the back of the motorbike (and 'being with Jeremy')- but also 'being away from the crowd'. Perhaps another highlight was that we started with an 'upmarket' breakfast and finished with a 'Fine Dinner', but were able to experience all sorts of extremes in between.
The food was most enjoyable all the way around. (So was the liquor) Lesley has been telling everybody that she is grateful for your care and concern in the way you 'looked after' me all the way. I certainly appreciate the manner in which you kept me out of (too much) trouble. We have the greatest admiration for your people skills in all ways.
Thank you so much for a great holiday.
