We tour exclusively on 650cc Russian motorbikes called "Urals", with or without sidecars, and 125cc two-stroke Belarusian motorbikes called 'Minsks'.
As touring motorcycles these retro Soviet Red Army style motorbikes rule supreme in socialist Vietnam’s remote northern mountains.
We have the largest fleet of any tour operator in Vietnam -- 23 custom Urals and 25 custom Minsks --maintained by five expert mechanics and supported by a mountain of spare parts. These bikes look great and are very charismatic. We also have a number of Honda XR250s for those who insist on Jap bikes.
Experienced drivers familiar with larger engines will appreciate the retro feel and raw torque of the military Urals which are a Russian version of BMWs dating back to WWII. They are a joy to ride.
Minsks, meanwhile, are perfect for small single tracks far up in the mountains where no one has been to before. They are tough, light (100kg) and robust motorbikes, with more than enough power to get you up any track. Both Charlie Boorman and Richard Hammond from BBC Top Gear loved riding our Minsks.
Here are some movies about what our bikes are like in the far north.
